March, Week 2

I've sat down to write this numerous times this week and just... haven't had time. It's finally 4pm on Sunday afternoon and I have been attempting to just sit for the past hour, and alas what has felt like every two minutes someone - human or canine - has required some piece of my attention. It's been a long week.

Feel Good

Last week I felt like I was in a period of calm; this week the universe might be laughing at me while it is about to throw a literal severe, tornado-producing storm at me. We had a brief preview earlier this week where, minutes before I went to leave to drive 40 minutes to take the kids to a lunchtime dentist appointment, something rolled through that snapped some trees and dropped the temperature 30 degrees in a mere 10 minutes. I'm a little terrified for this, and yes, I know there is always a lot of hype around these weather events (I'm looking at you, the Great Non-Ice Storm of February 2026), but yes, I succumb to the hype. I feel like if it were just me on my own, I'd be less paranoid, but the aforementioned needy humans and canines require a bit more care and concern.

I'll report back with how much actually materializes next week when hopefully my house made of sticks hasn't been swept off to Oz.

Do Good

Things are changing at work (my manager is leaving), and that's inevitably going to cause some swirl that I'll be front and center in. It could be a good or bad thing, and I'm trying to take it day-by-day and see how things land.

Georgia caused the drama of the week after she mysteriously started to limp and then her front wrist (? Do dogs have wrists?) swelled up all huge. After an attempt to take her to the vet on Saturday night, the kids and I ended up heading to Raleigh early on Sunday where we sat for almost five hours to find out she probably just sprained it.

The kids did great (until they didn't), and it's just been a long week and weekend.

On the plus side, they started soccer this weekend and did great with it. They've done the main program here for a few sessions now, and amazingly lined up to be in the same age group the past few rounds (pros of having kids 15 months apart?!).

It's really well-run and keeps them engaged because it's actually structured with footwork and drills and then four v four games at the end. We were a bit over-extended this year on the extracurriculars front so I've scaled back for spring (which unfortunately means no tball, but Charlie hasn't been into it and Hailey didn't make the age cutoff again this year), but I think/hope soccer might be a sport they end up sticking with.

I'm still a bit sad field hockey isn't a sport in this region, but at least there's a solid lacrosse program too.

Look Good

The weather was all over the place this week and started warm and gloriously spring-like and then shifted cold and then warm again, so it was kind of a week of multiple changes per day.

  1. Skirt from Target from 2+ years ago, shirt is just a tank top from Walmart from last year, and shoes are Allbirds ballet flats (the colors changes constantly, but they're a blush pink from 2021).
  2. Shirt is from some Nordstrom brand, and shorts are last year's Abercrombie (this year's here. Shoes are Toms.
  3. Dress from TJMaxx from at least four years ago, but here it is on Poshmark! I had a mishap with some exploding spray sunscreen midway through the day with this (thankfully it came out) and had to quick change between meetings.
  4. Shirt is Quince, jeans are Everlane, and shoes are Allbirds.
  5. Sweater is from Quince, jeans are from Old Navy, and sandals are Toms. Belt (that I wear all the time) is JCrew Factory.
  6. Shirt and sweater are previous seasons' JCrew Factory, jeans are Madewell, and shoes are Cariuma (who apparently shut down!).
